FBR digital invoicing in Pakistan
What an FBR electronic sales tax invoice means, how it differs from a PDF invoice, and where to check the current integration requirements.

What does FBR digital invoicing mean?
FBR describes electronic invoicing as a digital process for exchanging invoice information in a structured format. Its FAQ distinguishes a structured electronic tax invoice from a paper invoice that has only been scanned or copied. FBR’s rules and notices explain which registered persons must integrate an invoicing system with the Board’s computerized system and how that integration is carried out.
The exact requirements depend on the taxpayer and the notices currently in force. Check FBR’s latest legal provisions and consult FBR or a qualified tax adviser about your own status.
Is a PDF invoice the same as an FBR electronic invoice?
Not necessarily. A PDF is a digital document that can be downloaded or shared. FBR’s definition concerns structured invoice data created and transmitted through the applicable electronic invoicing process. A PDF may be part of a business’s document workflow, but the file alone does not prove that the invoice was integrated with or reported to FBR.
Invoicing software and integration are separate questions
Software may help a business prepare and manage invoice records. FBR integration is a separate technical and regulatory workflow. FBR identifies licensed integrators for configuring the transmission of electronic sales tax invoices, and its current public list includes PRAL and other providers. Check that list directly and confirm the provider, scope, and onboarding process before choosing a service.
FBR’s Sales Tax General Order 01 of 2026 discusses engaging licensed integrators and includes conditions for editing, deleting, or cancelling certain invoices. The order contains timing rules and other conditions, so read the full text and later notices before acting. This summary is not tax or legal advice.
Questions to ask an invoicing provider
